If your idea of a good time is "anything that makes your heart race," then Calgary's a great place to be. There's a ton of places to ski, snowboard, mountain bike or rock climb in the mountains just west of here, but there's a lot to get your blood pumping inside the city, too.

At WinSport (88 Canada Olympic Drive S.W) you can take a spin on the bobsleigh track (that's 60 seconds of g-forces you'll never forget). Like your speed on a different kind of sled? Try out the introduction to luge. Or, catch some air and show off your moves at the Rockstar Halfpipe.

Mountain biking
WinSport’s bike park terrain features lift-access mountain bike trails with the city limits. The park is perfect for all skill levels, from beginning green trails with pump tracks to blue jump trails to an expert only black trail. Don’t miss out on the world-class downhill course, which is a descent of about 400 feet with rock gardens, berms and steeps. The terrain in the park includes teeter-totters, bridges, drops and skinnies. Plus, you can rent your bike at the park.

Zipline at WinSport
Soar from the top of WinSport’s 90-metre ski jump tower down North America’s fastest zipline, accelerating to speeds of up to 140 km/h. The vertical drop is 100 metres, which makes it one of the biggest vertical drops of any zipline in North America.

Summer bobsleigh
Piloted by a professional driver, rumble down the sliding track with three of your friends at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The blades are replaced by wheels as you experience 4Gs of forces through the turns down the same track that was used for bobsleigh at luge during the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Mini golf
A professionally designed 18-hole course provides the perfect place to work on putting, show off your talents or just to have fun with entire family with the scenic Rocky Mountains in the distance.

Complete with 10 floors, guests crawl and climb their way through a series of webs to reach the top of the tower. (Ages 4-16)

Perform gravity-defying manoeuvres with this unique trampoline experience (ages 4-18)

Climbing Wall
Challenge yourself with four different climbing routes as you strive to conquer this 30-foot wall

If rock climbing's your thing, you can stay right in the city and scale the climbing wall at WinSport or the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre (also a great place to rent gear if you need it).

The Olympic Oval (University of Calgary) holds speed skating camps throughout the summer (you can register online). There's also public skating and running throughout the year.

Once you head out of town, west toward the mountains, you'll find year-round opportunities that'll make your heart thump. Check out the Canadian Rockies Adventure Centre and choose your poison – they'll help you book whitewater rafting, ziplines, ice walks, cave tours and almost anything else you can dream up.

After sundown, top up your energy over some well-earned Alberta beef at one of Calgary's steakhouses, or kick back and relax at one of the pubs around the city. If you've still got the energy, get your groove on at one of the city's nightclubs.
