Between bucking broncos and midway rides, the Stampede has no shortage of excitement for thrill seekers. Calgary is known for other high-flying adventures too, and this itinerary will point you in the right direction.

Getting There

To get to the Stampede, take the C-Train to Stampede Station. If you're downtown already, walk to 7 Ave. S.W. and board an eastbound train. It's a short trip to Stampede Park.

Canada Olympic Park is west of downtown on the Trans-Canada Highway. Take Calgary Transit or a taxi.

The Calgary Climbing Centre is off Macleod Tr. in South Calgary. Take Calgary Transit or a taxi.

Day One

Fuel up for the day’s activities at a free Calgary Stampede Breakfast near your hotel.

For the ultimate adrenaline rush, spend the day at WinSport. View Calgary from the top of the ski jump tower while flying down North America’s fastest zipline, Skyline at the Park. Test your physical and mental strength while walking the ropes on the Challenge Course. Fasten the belts inside a life-sized ball and roll downhill on a track at WinSport’s newest activity, the Z-Trip. This experience will definitely be something to talk about.

In the evening, head to Stampede Park for the GMC Rangeland Derby and Grandstand Show at 8:00 p.m. Watch the excitement unfold as the chuckwagons race around the track. You’ll be out of your seats cheering on your favourite driver during each heat.

Day Two

For a hearty meal and lively start to your day, go to Olympic Plaza and visit Fluor Rope Square at 9:00 a.m. You’ll be served with food, entertainment and the opportunity to participate in the Fluor Great Western Flapjack Flip or the Lammle's Hat Stomp competition. Rope Square runs July 10 and July 12-17.

Next, walk or take the C-Train from Olympic Plaza to Stampede Park. Catch the Calgary Stampede Rodeo at 1:30 p.m. Buy tickets in advance to get a seat in the stands – or bring a sturdy pair of cowboy boots and show up the day of and stand in the dirt like a real cowpoke.

Visit the Bull's Eye Cookshack by Nashville North for some dinner, then catch a concert at the Coca-Cola Stage. Stay on Stampede Park long enough to watch the fireworks show.

Day Three

Grab breakfast at your hotel. Go for a walk, run or bike ride along the Bow River's extensive pathways.

Make a trip out to the Calgary Climbing Centre for some indoor climbing. Challenge yourself as you climb your way across different angles and terrain.

For the evening's activities, head to Stampede Park and hit the midway. Test your limits on the Fireball or cool off on the Flume. If rides aren’t your thing, test your carnival palette and dig in to some deep fried jelly beans or cheesecake.
